A piece in USA Today was to shed more light on the adventure. It concerned a new discovery of caves in the Egyptian deser,t holding the most ancient ship stores ever discovered – perfectly preserved ship timbers, ropes and dozens of other nautical artefacts and fittings, perhaps over 4,000 years old, at Wadi Gawasis.
The find proves that the Egyptians had mastered advanced ship technology. The archaeologists suspect that the port at Wadi Gawasis was used by the Egyptians for centuries; perhaps from as early as the time of the Old Kingdom (2686 –2125 BC) and lasting until around 1500 BC.
