Stone buildings or stone artefacts found in the wake of the Chinese fleet
10. Stone buildings or stone artefacts found in the wake of the Chinese fleet
i) Observation platforms and observatories:
N. America– Casa Grande (Grand Canyon) (J. Andrews)
– Star Foster has directed our attention to the wall at Fort Mtn State Park in GA. It’s been dated to 1100 AD and previously been credited to the Cherokee, Welsh and aliens. It runs along a ridge for over a mile, some portions in ruins but some still at least 8 ft tall, with sections that might have been guard stations. They are semi-circular and appear along the wall at regular intervals.
North Atlantic – Newport round tower (mortar contains gypsum, foreign to area. Further anaysis is forthcoming); second Newport Tower, submerged by about 3 or 4 fathoms in the harbour (Barry Fell / Chris Hager); Canaries; Arctic – Kane basin.
Pacific – Tuomotu (Tahiti); Marquesas; Society Islands; Carolines – Lele, Ponape, Nan Madol, Yap, Tobi; Marianas – Saipan; Gilberts –Kiribati; Solomons – San Cristobal; Mala; New Guinea (5); Malden Island; Magnetic Island; Samoa (Jenny Gore evidence) Rotuma Island – Pyramid platform with a large basalt stone on top (Marshall Payn).
Costa Rica – There is (or was in 1984) a large man-made ancient tiered mound or knoll at the south end of Osa Peninsula in southern Costa Rica that looks toward Golfo Dulce and the Pacific. It is directly adjacent to a large goldfield that must have been anciently well known. Its location is at 08 degrees 32 minutes 00 seconds North, 83 degrees 18 minutes 40 seconds West – Griff Lloyd
Africa – ‘Great Zimbabwe’ solar observation tower (Derek Wilson)
Australia (5) – Penrith; east of Blue Mountains; Gympie; Central NSW coast;
Atherton; a pyramid known to exist near Gosford/Wyong, approx. 100km north of Sydney. It was apparently closed off about 10 years ago by MacQuarie University for excavations.
Notes:
1. An analysis of the mortar of as many of these platforms as possible will be conducted, with results being posted on the website.
2. It is thought the stepped ziggurat shape of the observation platforms and the fact they were placed on the highest point of land served (like a football stadium) to raise as many people as possible above the sea – to avoid tsunamis such as that caused by meteorite impact in 480 S 1660 E (late 1422) which caused waves 700 feet high.
(ii) Carved stones recording voyage
China – Liu Shia Chang (Fukien Province); Lingshan Mountain (Quanzhou); Malaya – Malacca;
Singapore, mouth of Singapore River; at Long Ya Men (dragon teeth — (Renee Johnsson); Thailand; Ceylon – Dondra Head; India – Guli, Calicut, Cochin; Africa – Matadi Falls (Congo); Cape Verde Islands (Janela); South America – Santa Catarina; New Zealand – Ruapuke Beach and · South Island; North America – Dighton Rock and McCook Point (B Trinque); American Pacific coast – “Sacramento stone”?
-Evidence of concentric circles, Guangzhou (Simon Wong).
St Paul Island, Indian Ocean ( Paul Lewis)
Australia Story passed down to reader of a huge ship anchor found on top of a cliff on an island two or three nights North of Broome (Australia). Anchor points to a grave – a large marble slab with an unidentifiable inscription upon it. Also, ancient hand-made clay pots that seem to have been used for smelting gold discovered near-by. (Buckley Dwyer)
(iii) Stones to denote position
Burma -copies of Kyaiktiyo Buddhist Shrine Burma?
North America – S. Peabody, Royaston, Barre, Shutesbury, Chelmsford, Upton, Concord, Waltham, Carlisle, Acton, Lynn, Cohasset, Newport, California.
Runestone State Park outside Heavener, Oklahoma has large, flat, upright stone about 10 feet tall by 5 feet wide that has two or three lines of engraved runes that are quite visible and un-obscured by graffiti, lichen or other engravings. The carvings have been said to be Viking runes. The stone is on a currently un-navigable creek that drains into Poteau Creek which is in the Arkansas River watershed. (Richard Kern)
Newfoundland
Labrador
Ellesmere Island
Kane Basin
Outer Hebrides ?
Patagonia – S Julien (Darwin)
Canada – British Columbia coast; Queen Charlotte Island (Margo Donovan’s evidence).
Oregon – Tillamook (Bill Lucas)
Queen Charlotte Islands at Masset on the northern tip of Haida Gwaii.(Christine Yates)
Salem New Hampshire has stone platforms by river. More research needed. (Henry Quinn-Dollar Signs)
Near the St. Lawrence River there is a pile of cut stones which are ancient and no ones knows who did it – more research needed – (Will Miskolzie)
Tasmania With regards to the Chinese habit of cutting stone circles in rocks at various locations as evidence for others of their visitation – similar circles around 5 to 8 inches in diameter have been picked into low stone face in North Western Tasmania at a place known as “The Sundown” next t where a fresh water creek empties on the beach about 10 kilometers south of the Arthur River. (Coen Smit)
(iv) Miscellaneous stone dwellings
North America
Narragansett Bay, ruins of village.
Oregon: cut sandstone blocks. Settlers in the area had not used nor cut sandstone for building. Found on the coast, half way up the state of Oregon, USA, just off the Highway to the land side. (Victor Thomas)
Boston: 3 story, pagoda-style building to the northeast of Boston.
High Arctic – Newfoundland; Labrador; Kane Basin.
British Columbia – Washington state (Geoff) submerged village.
Mississippi (440 10’ N 930 W) circular fortress (to house 5,000 men).
California – east of San Francisco Bay (Chinese village); an excavation of the San Antonio de Padua mission in California, reveals Chinese export porcelains. Since the local and Hispanic ceramics were more plentiful than English wares, the room may have been occupied at an earlier date than those of the 1976-78 excavations …(Thomas Gale)
Gloucester Massachusetts – numerous groups of archeologists have tried {unsuccessfully} to determine the origins of a large well-type structure, made of stone apparently like a large circular staircase that leads into the ground. “Local Wisdom” is that it was constructed by Norseman hundreds of years ago. It is estimated to be at least 300 or 400 years old, is inconsistent with Northern European masonry and would have required sophisticated construction knowledge. Perhaps at one point it went up as well as down. It is located at the top of a hill just above Annisquam, the first anchorable harbor or cove near the mouth of the Annisquam River, which is just below the Merrimack River (discussed in the book). This Harbor is the most protected of any on the North side of Cape Ann and provides access to Ipswich Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. (Peter L. Combs)
Washington State: In William R. Corliss’s book, “Ancient Man: A Handbook of Puzzling Artifacts” there is a reference to a square, stone enclosure, 200 feet on each side, with two square pits within, located at the confluence of the Klickitat and Columbia rivers in Klickitat County, south-central Washington State, USA. A report describes remnants of cedar wood at this “fortress,” and quantities of arrowheads in the vicinity, but said the construction was ancient, beyond the memory of Native Americans in the late 19th Century. Could this site have any possible connection to China? Aerial photographs of the site as it appears today (much altered by a higher river level, and construction of nearby highways and railroads, but with three lines of trees appearing curiously close to the site as mapped in the Smithsonian report) are available on-line at: http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?11&Z=10&X=1582&Y=12654&W=1 (Daniel Spatz)
Canada A Canadian reader came across a report of a set of very well carved stone stairs in the Victoria area that went deep into the rock. The stairs were recalled as being very artfully done. Untold attempts by the persons to return to the site failed but apparently the natives of the area were aware of the steps. The article suggested that the stairs weren’t in keeping with the style of the Spaniards who had ventured into that area. Were the Chinese interested in underground storage? (Ken & Grace Ryan)
Nova Scotia The Island of the Seven Cities – in which Canadian architect Paul Chiasson describes the chain of events that led him to conclude that Cape Breton Island was settled by Chinese fleets years before John Cabot’s 1497 discovery of the island. The area, referred to by early French explorers as la Tarterie (i.e. “the region of the Chinese”) is abound with the crumbling ruins of a magnificent walled town, and nearby mining and agricultural operations. In addition, Chiasson claims that the language, clothing, religion and legends of the Mi’kmaq people who were indigenous to the region display deep cultural roots from China. Paul’s website can be found at www.islandofsevencities.com
A reader has written in describing some ruins in Ontario woodland, close to a pillar carved with Chinese script which we are investigating. The walls apparently seem to be constructed in the fashion of the Chinese walls described in Paul Chiasson’s book. The ruins are in much better shape than the configuration on Cape Breton island. Most of the walls are intact though obscured by trees. They are not European and not Aboriginal. Other research suggests other early French explorers sought out abandoned metal mines and evidence of much earlier settlement. One report notes an abundance of feral cannabis hemp (not native to the area), and evidence of long departed metal smelting operations. We are also told that here are areas of central Ontario with wild flora that seem to be a mirror of flora of Manchuria. Most of these plants are regarded as rare medicinals in China, but are just curious rare wild plants in Canada – Roddy Heading
Kevin Dougherty writes about “Site of 465-year-old Settlement Unearthed” in the Montreal Gazette, August 19, 2006. From what we understand, an archaeologist was hired to take a look at what was assumed to be the “charred wooden remains” of an early 17th century fort built by Champlain but what he now believes is actually the earlier fort built by Cartier between 1541 and 1543. “Chretien [archaeologist] has dug up more than 150 objects including ceramics, pottery, nails, a ring, glass beads, vessels and an axe. But his most important finds are a blue fragment of 16th -century Italian Faenza ceramic and a shard of Iroquois pottery, dating the site to before Champlain’s arrival. Carbon dating places the site between 1400 and 1430, but the Italian ceramic is a more accurate gauge.” We are obviously interested in the carbon dating result as it seems to tie in with the 1421 theory somewhat!
Alaska – Article in the Lowell Journal (Kent County Michigan) dated April 28, 1897, referenced an article in the St. Louis Globe. A Professor Alfred Aldridge was exploring the Kuwalic River when he noticed that a great body of earth had been disturbed as in an avalanche. He found a large number of relics including pottery and walls of dull gray masonry set in mortar. The sandstone blocks were of beautiful symmetry and fairly even in size. He dug into a room where he found more pottery, pots ,vases, cups, plates, jugs, pipes, arrows, spears of odd design, scrapers, hatchets, and drills. Some of the jars were exquisitely shaped and 8 feet tall. He said some of the light brown earthenware was similar to what he had found in New Mexico some years before. Apparently he felt he had discovered a prehistoric city of possible Asian origin. (Larry Wittenbach) Any more information on this site would be appreciated.
South America
Peru – The Great Wall of Chimu (compare with Vietnam) – 40 miles long near
Chan-Chan; Quinoa subterranean palace (Geographical Review, Vol XXIII – 1932.
Mexico – Teotihuacan, inscribed rocks (Professor Niven)
A reader sent us a photo which he took when visiting the ancient city of Monte Alban which is supposedly the oldest planned city in the Americas; founded around 600 BC. The tourguide was convinced that this carving was of a chinese man. The picture can be viewed in the gallery or by clicking here. Can anyone give us any more information on this site? (Alex Becerra)
Brazil – Upper Xingu area was densely settled long before Columbus and European settlers arrived, with towns featuring plazas, roads up to 50 metres wide, deep moats and bridges: built by an advanced society. Settlement could have supported between 2,500 and 5,000 people, said the researchers, led by Michael Heckenberger of the University of Florida.

Columbia – A reader sent us a photo of a stone figure that was found on the Pacific Coast of Colombia in an indigenous tomb. He points out that this seems to look more like a Chinese figure as the idigenous Colombians did not have beards. Can anyone shed any light on this? To view this carved figure please click here
Vietnam – great wall of Vietnam (evidence Ms Fan, Kunming Conference, 2002).
Fiji – on the island of Taveuni there are ancient ruins that no one can date or understand. There is a huge moat-like structure around what was a village area on a high plateau. There are still mounded stone bases where huts stood, and a watchman’s hut base that gives a clear view of the only opening in the surrounding reef. There are shards of pottery scattered around, and surfacing all the time… some are blue and white… (Angela Blomfield)
New Zealand – see bottom of page and also
Stone settlement in Kaiangaroa Forest. Comprises measured stone walls, possible living quarters. Closed to the public since 1973.
Australia – Newcastle; Sydney. Old tower found to the west of Townsville built of local stone and cemented together with antnest material, the nearby creek is named aptly ‘stonehouse creek’. It is said to predate the arrival of Cpt. Cook by 100 years. Disused mining sites close to can be found. (Rob Talbot)
Western Australia Stone jetty made from rocks and stone from an inland quarry (Mike Harty)
Azores – Corvo (on beach)
The Newport Round Tower – astronomical alignments
Carbon dating of tower now puts earliest date as 1410.
Professor William S. Penhallow, Professor Emeritus of Physics, University of Rhode Island has concluded the tower is a cylinder with arches sitting on eight pillars whose windows are cut so as to enable astronomical sightings (in 3D) of the sun, moon, Polaris and Dubhe (Ursa Major) at spring equinox and winter solstice.
Everything required to determine longitude by an eclipse of the moon is found in the alignment of the windows. A structure northeast of the tower has been located (gnomon line ?) and is being investigated. Gavin Menzies has requested an analysis of the mortar of the tower to see whether it contains rice flour, an ingredient used by the Chinese to add strength to mortar. Further requests to analyse mortar on 17(i) and 17 (iv) above will be made and results posted on website.
The Rhode Island Tower: Colonial Mill or Viking Lighthouse? By Paul Chapman from Ancient American – Issue # 19 / 20.
“…But in researching my book, The Norse Discovery of America, I found that Gerald Mercator’s map of 1569 actually indicated the Newport Tower at Narragansett Bay. Since Mercator published his map some 67 years prior to the colonial settlement, it stands to reason that the tower could not have been of colonial origin….”
Bimini North Island
(Bahamas) hull ballast and slipway; Underwater stone platform, hull ballast (Andros: for more information please click here); second ‘road’ at Anguilla; third, Palm Beach, Florida; fourth, Miami ship canal, Florida. Jetty at Ft. Lauderdale is built with the same stones as those at Miami. Possible junk ballast. Many of the stones are marked with star-shaped borings (Charles Huegy)

Carved or painted stone artwork
Easter Island– Chinese lion’s head (Kerson Huang). The headwear on some of the stone heads is reminiscent of the Chinese official hat with ear coverings at both sides. The Bird Man face paintings are just like that of the Chinese God Kuan Kong – Tracy Chew
– A Buddha statue at the Eastern end of the quarry site from where the huge stone Moai statues are carved, which a guide insisted pre-dated the other carvings. It is a unique statue: kneeling, with, legs, gazing up (to the stars?) not out to sea, bearded, and with a distinctly rounded head – Matt Cribb

Stone statue discovered on bank of Tennessee River near the present Pickwick Dam. It is a square limestone rock about 18+” by 10″ by 6″ thick with a Chinese looking face carved on the front, v-neckline robe. On the back, the hair is carved into a ponytail with a one “tie” holding it together. (Gary Shannon)
California – sculpture (C Marschner); carved stone with Chinese writing (Steve Elkins); Susanville – on side of canyon by railroad there were seen several large “runic” inscriptions running across the canyon wall. They were all parallel to each other and extended for about 1/4 mile or so. There was also a concrete ditch running down the centre of the canyon. It was obviously man-made. (Roberta Palmer)

Oregon, Tillamook rock (Bill Lucas)
Africa: There is a rock engraving from Driekopseiland on the Vaal River which seems to be of a Chinese figure with turned-up shoes and a pagoda hat (Anthony Tankard)
A carved stone which appears to be depicting someone of Oriental lineage. Possibly Ming Dynasty. The carving was known to have existed before the Civil War and is carved in Savanah Sandstone and located about ten miles North of the Arkansas River. It is carved in minute detail just about life size. Last seen in 1984, it is in a fairly remote area and not many people know about it. The facial features and hair style appear to be Oriental. Photographs will hopefully be posted soon on the ‘Gallery’ page of our website.
Mexico – state of Qoxaca. The site at Monte Alban has some intriguing carvings not least some small stone slabs that appear to be quite unrelated to the other free-standing stones. The first: a carving of an elephant – quite clearly defined with tusks and trunk; the second: the profile of a man with a heavy beard, prominent jaw and a large protruding nose; the third: a bas-relief of a head which a reader considers to be Asian. The set of the face and the eyes was quite different to the Amerindian faces depicted in the other carvings. The headgear was also different, and the face was carved with a long thin beard appearing very much like the ones associated with the Chinese – Julian Byzantine
– Acapulco: there are many petroglyphs around that show people wearing tunics that go down to the waist or knees and some that look like mummies. When discovered by Europeans, most Native Americans did not wear clothing like this. (Justin M. Ruhge)

The petroglyphs of Afognak are said to contain Chinese characters – Joseph Davis
Australia -Petroglyphs from “The Burrup” near Dampier on the NW coast of Western Australia. They are locally well known and one is even described locally as “The Chinaman” – Dr John Groom
There are original source materials of the 18th century French discovery of carved stone pillars in the woods of Eastern Canada. These pillars were covered in Tartarian script. French Jesuits visited these pillars and eventually carried one off to France for study. It was considered very unusual that Asian artworks were left behind in the forests of Canada – more research needed (Roddy Heading)
We have received reports of a stone carved to look like a Chinese junk, found in Salt Pan Creek about two kilometres from where it leaves the Georges River. It is 47 cm long. 28 cm high at the bow &16cm wide. Awaiting photographs – Frank Artlett.
Alton Illinois, USA at the convergence of the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers there was a 50 ft painted carving of two Lung, painted in the Chinese Imperial colors (colors that the Native Americans did not have at this time) called the Piasa. A team has translated Piasa to mean “water dwarf,” based on the indigenous language of the time (the indigenous people were 6 ft+, at this time). Locals and “experts” claim the words origin means “bird” or “water-leopard.” These explanations have no basis, but persist.
(Jim Kennedy )
Princeton – Reader once shown a large stone found in Princeton, BC. It was approximately the size of a basketball but oblong. On the surface were calligraphy characters. No institutions able to determine what the characters were and thought it was a hoax. The reader describes them as looking Chinese. (Jim Hagen)
Brazil – Reader sends in a picture of a stone located in Campeche island, close to Santa Catarina Island in the south of Brazil. The information you get from the Tourist Office in Santa Catarina is that this stone is similar to others found in Africa. (Fernando Gandara) To see a photo of the distinct carvings on this stone please visit the gallery section of our website or click here.
Tennessee River – Stone statue discovered on bank of Tennessee River near the present Pickwick Dam. It is a square limestone rock about 18+” by 10″ by 6″ thick with a Chinese looking face carved on the front, v-neckline robe. The discovery is of a large stone and mortar ramp under the water off the beach north of Jalisco, Mexico. It is constructed in large blocks approximately 3 meters by 10 meters by one meter thick. The ramp is roughly 20 meters wide and 400 meters long. It begins in 5 meters of water and runs toward an extremely protected beach – more information to be provided soon.
Possible stone pavements / slipways found from the outer reef to the shore on Maina Island in the south-west corner on the Aitutaki ground in the Cook Island (Lat: 18.8° S Lon: 159.8° W). The structure is similar to that of Bimini, Andros etc. The guide at the location could not provide any further information on the stones – Matt Barrett
